Private local tour of Mycenae
Once in Mycenae, the highlights to visit are the Mycenae Citadel and the treasury of Atreus, also called the Tomb of Agamemnon. There is also a small museum which I suggest that you explore, if you have time, on your own. The opening hours are subject to continues changes and you can contact us, giving us the date of your visit, so that we provide you with the exact opening hours.
In the Citadel, among several other remains of important buildings, you will see the Lions Gate, the Grave Circle A, remainings of a grainhouse and the Palace on top of the hill.
Then you will visit the beehive tomb of Agamemnon, as most of the locals call it, although the official name of it is the treasure of Atreus. There were at least nine monumental beehive tombs around the Acropolis of Mycenae, but this one is the largest and most impressive, which at the same time is also very well preserved. Once inside you will see another smaller gate leading to an extra room, which must have been the treasury house of it.
For the guided visit of the Citadel and the treasury with a licensed tour guide you will need approximately 2 hours and then you can spend more time on your own to take pictures.
Private local tour of Athens
In Athens there are so many things to see and places to visit. I have chosen to mention some extra details below on some of the most popular places to see but there are so many special archaeological sites, museums and churches to explore that a licensed tour guide could really help you make the most of your visit there. The opening hours of these sites, museums and monasteries are subject to continues changes and you can contact us, giving us the date of your visit, so that we provide you with the exact opening hours.
The Acropolis Hill
The highlight of course is the Acropolis Hill. Your guide will meet you right by the entrance of the site, and will start ascending with you to the top of the hill, finding the best spots on the way up to stop and help you visualize the Golden Age of Pericles which was when most of the monuments on the hill were built. Climbing up you will see and hear explanations about the Filopappos hill, the Herodium odeon, the Dionysius theatre, the Pnyx hill - birthplace of Democracy and the Areopagus hill. Stopping before the Propylaea, you will have an excellent view of the temple of Wingless Nike and the Ancient Agora, where Socrates, Plato and Aristotle introduced great philosophical schools. Walking through the Propylaea you will reach the top and you will see the breathtaking Parthenon and the Erechtheion temple opposite it, where the Karyatides stood instead of columns to support the roof.
For the private guided tour of the Acropolis Hill you will need approximately 1.5 hours.
The New Acropolis Museum
The New Acropolis Museum is characterized as one of the best museums in the world and there you will see parts of the excavations of the ancient city through its glass floor, an amazing exhibition of "Kores" and "Kouroi" statues, the Karyatides e.t.c. As you will be ascending the different levels of the museum, you will reach the top floor, all glass, where admiring the remaining pediments and frieze of the Parthenon, you will also have an excellent view of the Parthenon itself. This is the next best view of the Parthenon, if any of you for any reason would prefer to not climb up the Acropolis hill.
For the private guided tour of the New Acropolis Museum you will need approximately 1.5 hours.
The National Archaeological Museum
Probably one of the most important and completed in ancient art collections in the world museum. The building itself is a historical monument and in its two floors and several different sections one can see the prehistoric collection from Sesklo and Dimini, Cycladic art idols and utensils, the 14 kilograms of golden artifacts of the treasure that Schliemann excavated from the grave circle of the Mycenaean citadel, the Amphora of Dipylo, the astonishing bronze statue of Zeus (or Poseidon perhaps?), several marble tombstones, the bronze running horse and its rider which was found in the shipwreck of Artemisio, several other bronze and marble statues from all around Greece, Roman sculptures, an Egyptian collection and on the first floor the very impressive frescoes from Santorini and a one of the largest collections of the world in pottery.
For the private guided tour of the National Archaeological Museum you will need approximately 2 hours.
The Ancient Agora
The Agora was the heart of ancient Athens, the focus of political, commercial, administrative and social activity, the religious and cultural centre, and the seat of justice. There among other things you will see the temple of Hephaestus, which is one of the most well preserved classical temples in Greece, the foundation of the round Tholos, the Mitroon, pedestals of statues of great importance, the Gymnasium, remainings of different portiques, one of which, the Stoa of Attalos, was fully reconstructed by the American School of Archaeology and houses the very interesting museum of the Agora with a lot of utensils and pottery of everyday life, as well as the marble "machine" that was used to elect the 500 members of the parliament and some of the clay "ostraka" on which the Athenians were voting for the people they wanted to expel from their city, several of which have the name of Themistocles written on them.
For the private guided tour of the Ancient Agora and its museum you will need approximately 1.5 hours.
Other places of great interest are:
- the Kerameikos (the ancient cemetary and one of the entrances into Ancient Athens), located in the city center
- the Roman Agora and the Clock of the Winds, located in the city center
- the Byzantine Museum which is located near the Evangelismos metro station

The 3 restored columns of the tholos, the round building that was built on the 4th century BC are consisting one of the emblems of Delphi and you will see their photos almost in every book or travel site about Delphi.

Once in Olympia, the highlights to visit are the Archeological Museum also called the New Museum and the Archeological site. Your will be met by your driver right next to where you will come off the ship and your private tour will start.
On your way you will be able to admire the unique landscape of the valley and the mountain of Pangaion, from which most of the Macedonian gold was mined, as well as traces of the ancient Via Egnatia, which the Romans had built to connect the east with the west, Rome with Byzantium and upgrade their commerce.
After an approximately 20 minute drive, you will arrive in Philippi, one of the region's most important archaeological sites which was originally colonized in 360 B.C. by the people of Thasos and later renamed Philippi by Philip II, the king of Macedonia. In 49 AD, Apostle Paul through the Via Egnatia got from the port of Neapolis to Philippi, where he founded the first Christian church on European soil and baptized the first Christian, a woman named Lydia, right by the Gagitis river, where a famous baptistery and a modern church exist today and you will be able to visit on this tour.
In the site of Philippi you will be able to see the collection of artifacts and buildings which have been unearthed and restored, including the Roman forum, the commercial agora, the part of the Egnatia highway that was passing next to the agora of Philippi, the prison of St. Paul, tombstones, mosaic pavements, and an impressive Greek theater with remainings of architecture showing that in the Roman times it was used as an arena. After your guided tour, you will be able to enjoy some free time in order to take pictures or have a drink at the small cafe there is.
Returning to Kavala you will be able to enjoy a short scenic drive around the city, catching a view of the very impressive two stories high ancient aqueduct and Byzantine castle, the walls of the old town, Imaret which is a monument of Islamic architecture built by Mehmet Ali, the founder of the Egyptian empire, the aqueduct (Kamares) and the house where Mehmet Ali was born, as well as the old port with the several wooden fishing boats and famous fish taverns. If you have time at your disposal and you would be interested in a unique dining experience, please let us know and we would love to either arrange a special menu of local specialties for you or give you suggestions on places to go to and enjoy ouzo and a snack, before you embark your ship again.
Kavala Walking Tour
2.5 h. walking tour (Private tour)
(guidance throughout + visit of the archeological museum + visit of the aqueduct + free time)
Your professional licensed tour guide and local expert will meet you right next to where you will come off the ship and your private walking tour will start. Your guide will present to you all of the long and complicated history of this city and of Northern Greece and will try to make your visit pleasant and fun, pointing out along the way, the historical buildings and squares of the city. You will mostly be walking around the lower part of it, where there is not much hiking involved, but you will keep having in the distance the view of the city's Byzantine castle, the tall modern apartment buildings all around the rock the city seats on and several other parts of it.
Among the places you will visit will be the Archaeological Museum, the two-story aqueduct (Kamares) which was built by the Turks in the 16th century and supplied the castle with water, the remaining walls of the old town, Imaret which is a monument of Islamic architecture built by Mehmet Ali, the founder of the Egyptian empire, the house where Mehmet Ali was born, and more. At the old port you will love taking photos of the several tens of wooden boats there are, which fish hundreds of kilos of fish every day. Next to them are lined up a few of the most famous fish taverns in Greece and at the end of your tour you will be able to go there and enjoy a snack and local specialties, accompanied by a glass of Mytilene’s ouzo, or a beer. Your guide would love to give you suggestions before the end of the tour on how to get back to the ship or where to go and eat. Fair Usage Policy
In order to protect the quality of services offered to our clients, Olympic Tours has drawn up and implemented this Fair Usage Policy, applicable to all schemes of use of extra services offered during our private tours. This Fair Use Policy is designed to make sure that Wi-fi hotspot users receive a fast and reliable service. A very small number of our guests use the Wi-fi service inappropriately, for example by sending or downloading large files, or using 'peer to peer' and file sharing software (which may involve sending and receiving video and other large files). This means that service quality for all users is affected, making it slower for everyone to access the internet or send and receive emails. The on board Wi-Fi hotspot is generally meant for emailing, social media, instant messaging, browsing and search activities. Guests who use file-sharing software or download large files are usually the ones affected by our policy. Media streaming and downloading of torrents also contribute to the excessive use of bandwidth capacity.
