Paleokastritsa, Kanoni and Corfu town

4 h. tour (Private tour)

(transportation + visit of Virgin Mary monastery + visit to Kanoni + free time in Corfu old town)

Departing from Corfu's port, you will drive to Paleokastritsa, the west coast's most picturesque resort. Paleokastritsa consists of two large peninsulas and five coves surrounded by wooded hills. There you will find the Monastery of the Blessed Virgin Mary, founded in 1225, perched on the rocky northern promontory. The building which exists today was built later and houses a museum with Byzantine and post-Byzantine icons. Its picturesque bell tower must be one of the most photographed sights in Corfu.

You will continue to Kanoni, from where you can enjoy the excellent views of the picturesque Mouse Island and Vlacherna Convent which is linked to the mainland by a causeway. Mouse Island was formed, according to legend, when the ship of Odysseus that took him back to his homeland Ithaca, was turned to stone. The god of the sea Poseidon was angry at Phaeceans because they defied him.

You will then return to Corfu Town with its unique architecture influenced by Venetian, French and British occupation. You will see impressive buildings such as the Old and New Fortresses as well as the Palace of Saint Michael & Saint George which now houses an impressive Museum of Asiatic Art. The Liston is Corfu Town's most traditional meeting place, where people gather to read newspapers and drink coffee or ouzo at the old-established cafes. Its terrace, with a series of arches fronting the road, is based on the Rue de Rivoli in Paris and was designed by the French in the early 19th century. It forms the western side of the Esplanade, which is the largest square in southern Europe.

At the end of your excursion you will be taken back to the port.

Just arrived home from our 2 Mediterranean cruise's with MSC, decided to take Trip Advisers advise and try out Nikki's - Olympic Day Tours, we couldn't have made a better decision, she and her guides treated us like royalty, they were attentive to our every need, they where highly knowledgeable re all 4 tours [Katakolon, Santorini, Piraeus and Corfu] we participated in as all were certified archaeologists and accredited with the Greek Government. Her drivers were just great and so too the vehicles we travelled in. I was a little worried about going on private tours not sanctioned by the cruise line but after witnessing what we had to go through with the MSC organised tours on our second cruise to the Western Mediterranean ports we felt let down and treated like cattle compared to Nikki Vlachou's organisation. Don't be put off, give her company a try, I guarantee you wont be disappointed.

Client Testimonials

Niki's knowledge of the history there as well as how she related it to all of us was a perfect balance!
Julie
Niki knows her stuff, and she comes across as an intelligent and credible source of verified information. My wife and I used her as our group tour guide in Olympia and then again in Athens, and we were very pleased.
Tony
I definitely recommend other cruisers to book independently through Niki Vlachou.
