Private local tour of Mycenae

Once in Mycenae, the highlights to visit are the Mycenae Citadel and the treasury of Atreus, also called the Tomb of Agamemnon. There is also a small museum which I suggest that you explore, if you have time, on your own. The opening hours are subject to continues changes and you can contact us, giving us the date of your visit, so that we provide you with the exact opening hours.

In the Citadel, among several other remains of important buildings, you will see the Lions Gate, the Grave Circle A, remainings of a grainhouse and the Palace on top of the hill.

Then you will visit the beehive tomb of Agamemnon, as most of the locals call it, although the official name of it is the treasure of Atreus. There were at least nine monumental beehive tombs around the Acropolis of Mycenae, but this one is the largest and most impressive, which at the same time is also very well preserved. Once inside you will see another smaller gate leading to an extra room, which must have been the treasury house of it.

For the guided visit of the Citadel and the treasury with a licensed tour guide you will need approximately 2 hours and then you can spend more time on your own to take pictures.

I had the pleasure of touring Olympia with Niki this past April. She is extremely knowledgeable of the area and you can tell that she truly has a passion for the history of Greece. Visiting Greece can be the trip of a lifetime... If you get the opportunity, it's important to truly value the time you have and see the sites with someone who can really bring them to life. Niki is the perfect person to bring the magic of Olympia to a whole other level.

On a side note, Niki also assisted arranging tours for me at Corinth, Delphi, and Mycenae. Each guide was excellent and on time. Sadly, I have to admit that I must have bothered Niki with about 50 emails. I had a lot of questions and she was very accommodating to answer them all and put my mind at ease. I should also point out that Rick Steves recommends working with her as well.
